Assessing your needs as a First Responder

After being trained in 2 different models and assessing the needs of first responders, Heather developed a 2-step model for critical incident debriefing and conducted research on the outcomes of this model during her dissertation. Consistent outcomes include putting the pieces of the puzzle back together, normalizing and validating reactions, reducing second guessing, learning from the response, and increased comradery among all personnel involved in an incident.

Heather believes in the importance of partnership and empowers members of peer support to fully engage in crisis intervention when appropriate.
